Preventive Dentistry: Don’t Let Your Teeth Steal Your Vacation Days

When it comes to your job, those vacation days are few and far between, and preventative dentistry can help you make the most of them. For many people, vacation days are often used for other purposes. If an emergency happens or they need a medical procedure and some time off work, it comes from their vacation days.

Preventative dentistry focuses on keeping your teeth, gums and oral health in the best possible condition. However, those people who put off having their bi-annual check-up can be putting themselves at risk for many different issues to pop up. Once a small problem becomes a big issue, you might find yourself tapping into your vacation days while you get treatment.

To use for vacation days for their intended purpose, keep reading to see how preventative dentistry can help. We provide tips to minimize your chances of needing to see the dentist.

Keep a regular daily oral health routine

One of the best ways preventative dentistry can help you keep your vacation days is having a simple oral care routine. Although it may not seem like a big deal, even skipping oral hygiene one day a week can lead to significant dental issues.

Brush for two minutes twice per day

One of the most important things you need to do is brush your teeth for two minutes per day. The best times to do this are in the morning after you wake up and right before bed.

Be sure not to eat anything after brushing your teeth in the evening and avoid any sugary or stain-causing beverages. If you do not have your toothbrush with you at school or work, you should rinse your mouth after eating lunch.

Do not forget to floss

One thing that many people are a culprit of doing is skipping flossing once per day. Although it may seem like something that is not needed since you just brushed your teeth, that is far from accurate.

By flossing, you are getting in the hard to reach crevices between your teeth where particles can get stuck. Here, bacteria will amass and cause damage to your teeth. When you floss, it will get these areas clean and help to avoid any bacteria build up that would otherwise cause decay or bad breath.

Visit the dentist twice per year

We know that with busy lives and schedules, it can be tempting to miss your dental checkup and cleaning. During these visits, your dentist can spot any possible trouble spots before they become an issue. You only need to see the dentist once every six months. This will certainly help you keep those precious vacation days for adventures, not treatments.

When was the last time you saw the dentist? If it has been a while or more than six months, you may have unknown dental problems. With preventative dentistry, our dentists can ensure serious issues do not occur or are intercepted before they worsen. Call our office to schedule an appointment.
